What it is
Siri is Apple's voice assistant, built into iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay and Vision Pro. From 14 September 2026 Apple began rolling out a redesigned "Siri AI" that adds multi-turn conversation, personal context (searching a user's own photos, mail and messages), on-screen awareness and Visual Intelligence, on top of the existing task features for Messages, Reminders, Calendar and Music.
Who it's for
Anyone with an eligible Apple device who wants hands-free control of their phone, calendar and messages, or spoken answers to general questions. The new conversational features require iPhone 15 Pro or later, or comparable iPad, Mac or Watch hardware; older devices keep the previous, more limited Siri.
Pricing
Siri is free with a compatible device — there is no separate subscription to buy. Apple's Siri product page says some server-processed Siri AI requests are "subject to daily usage limits" and that "expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future"; no price for that has been published yet.
What it doesn't do well
Siri AI launched as an opt-in beta, in English only, with other languages due "next month" according to Apple's own announcement. EU customers on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch are excluded at launch over the Digital Markets Act dispute, though Apple's announcement is specific to the EU and doesn't say whether the UK is affected. Heavier, cloud-based requests are rate-limited per day, and reporting from TechCrunch and CNBC says the new assistant runs partly on a custom Google Gemini model rather than one built solely by Apple, which Apple's own product pages do not mention.
