What it is
Semrush is a browser-based SEO and marketing platform whose Content Toolkit covers the content workflow for search: finding topics, generating briefs and full articles, checking on-page and AI-search visibility, and repurposing published content into social posts and emails. It is one part of a wider suite that also covers keyword research, backlink analysis, site audits, PPC and social media, all accessed from the same dashboard.
Who it's for
It suits in-house content marketers, SEO specialists, and agencies who want brief-writing, drafting and optimisation tools alongside their existing keyword and competitor research, rather than a standalone writing app. Semrush's own marketing says the toolkit is built for users "without SEO expertise," automating research so non-specialists can produce optimised content.
Pricing
There is a genuine free plan (no card required, one demo project, ten reports a day) as well as a seven-day free trial of paid plans. Semrush also sells the Content Toolkit as a standalone plan ("Base", £48.62/month billed annually) with its own limits (10,000 articles/month, 5 SEO content boosts/month), separate from the general SEO/marketing plans. Paid tiers on the broader SEO/marketing suite, shown in British pounds on the page we checked, start at the SEO plan (£95.07/month billed annually, £113 month-to-month) for five sites and 500 tracked keywords, rising through Starter (£133.84/month) and Pro+ (£201.09/month) to Advanced (£369.23/month); Enterprise pricing is by quote. The page did not state whether these prices include VAT.
What it doesn't do well
It is not a lightweight, single-purpose content tool: buyers pay for and navigate a full SEO platform to get the content features. Since April 2026 Semrush has operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Adobe following Adobe's completed acquisition, so its product roadmap now sits inside Adobe's marketing/CX portfolio rather than as an independent company.
