What it is
Qwen is Alibaba's consumer assistant, built on its own Qwen models. You can use it at chat.qwen.ai, in the iOS and Android apps, or in desktop apps for macOS and Windows. The web model picker offers Qwen3.7-Plus as the default, plus Qwen3.8-Max and Qwen3.8-Omni-Flash, and Qwen3.7-Plus lists a 1M-token context. Alongside chat it has web search, Deep Research reports, a Web Dev mode that builds pages, slides, translation, and image and video generation.
Who it suits
People who want one free app for chat, research and image work, and like being able to switch models. The desktop app can talk about what's on your screen, which is handy for emails and screenshots.
Pricing
The core service is free. The UK App Store lists three in-app subscriptions: Qwen Go at £3.99, Qwen Plus at £18.99 and Qwen Pro at £87.99. Neither the listing nor qwen.ai says what each tier adds or how often you're billed. The terms only say plans come with usage allowances that reset each period and that fees aren't refundable, subject to your statutory rights.
Where it falls short
The terms say the service is for private and non-commercial use only, so it isn't licensed for your business work. It's run by Nth Power Global Tech Singapore Pte. Ltd., and the privacy policy says data is stored in Singapore and processed by Alibaba Cloud. The terms let Qwen use your content to train models; opting out means emailing privacy@qwen.com. The UK iPhone app had no ratings yet when checked, and an older "Qwen Studio" app from the same developer is still listed.
