What it is
Kimi is Moonshot AI's chat assistant. You can ask questions and search the web, and you can also hand it longer jobs in Agent mode: a slide deck, a spreadsheet, a small website or a Deep Research report. On the top membership tier, the K3 model reads up to a million tokens in one conversation, so you can drop in a stack of long PDFs and ask across all of them. Kimi Work, a separate desktop app for Mac and Windows, can operate other apps on your computer.
Who it suits
It suits people who produce documents rather than just answers: consultants making decks, analysts working through reports, students with long reading lists. If you mainly want quick chat, the free plan and the faster K2.6 model are enough.
How pricing works
The international site prices plans in US dollars: a free plan, then Plus, Pro, Max and Ultra, billed monthly or yearly. All features draw on one shared credit pool that refreshes monthly. Agent jobs and higher reasoning settings use credits faster than plain chat, so heavy agent users will need a higher tier. The iOS app sells the same tiers in pounds through Apple.
Where it falls short
The biggest issue for UK buyers is data handling. Moonshot's privacy policy says personal data is stored in mainland China, the terms are governed by Chinese law, and neither mentions UK GDPR. Conversations can be used for training unless you email support to opt out. The help centre is a translation of the Chinese one, so its plan names and yuan prices don't match what the international site sells.
