What it is
HuggingChat is a browser chat app from Hugging Face that runs open-weight models. By default its Omni router sends each message to the model it judges best for the request. You can also pick a model yourself from a list of well over 100, including recent DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM, Kimi, Gemma and OpenAI gpt-oss releases. Vision models accept images, and tool use through MCP servers is supported. A separate ML Intern mode is aimed at machine learning work such as papers, training runs and datasets.
Who it suits
Developers, researchers and curious users who want to compare open models side by side without setting up their own hosting. The app's code is open source, so teams can also run their own copy against any OpenAI-compatible model server.
Pricing
You need a Hugging Face account. Since the October 2025 relaunch, chats draw on inference credits. Free accounts get a small monthly allowance, which Hugging Face's docs put at $0.10. PRO costs $9 a month and includes 20 times that. After that you pay the model providers' rates, which Hugging Face says it passes on without a markup.
Where it falls short
Spend depends on which model answers and how long the chat runs, so costs are less predictable than a flat subscription. The free allowance runs out quickly. There is no mobile app listed, and choosing between dozens of models assumes some familiarity with them.
