What it is
Ahrefs is an SEO platform built around a web crawl and backlink index. For content teams, the relevant parts are Content Explorer, which searches a database the company describes as 22.2 billion web pages to find what already ranks and drives traffic in a niche, and AI Content Helper, which grades a draft against competitors, flags topical gaps and suggests titles and structure; Ahrefs says this uses AI to detect multiple search intents for a target keyword. These sit alongside Ahrefs' broader toolset: Keywords Explorer, Rank Tracker, Site Audit and Site Explorer for backlinks.
Who it suits
It suits in-house SEOs, content marketers and agencies who need to research competitive content and check rankings, not casual bloggers. The tool assumes familiarity with SEO concepts like Domain Rating and organic traffic estimates, so it has a learning curve for people who just want writing help.
Pricing
Ahrefs' pricing page, shown to us in £, lists Starter at £23/mo, Lite at £99/mo, Standard at £199/mo (adds Content Explorer), Advanced at £359/mo and Enterprise at £1,199/mo on an annual commitment. There's also a free plan with limited access. The page did not state a country name or VAT treatment alongside the £ figures, so it's unclear whether these are UK-specific or just shown in sterling by default.
What it doesn't do well
Ahrefs doesn't generate finished copy the way a dedicated AI writing tool does; AI Content Helper scores and guides a draft rather than drafting it. Its data volumes and per-plan credit limits mean smaller users can hit caps on the lower tiers, and the interface is dense compared with lighter content-planning tools.
