Highlights

What it is

Last Week in AI is a weekly AI news digest from Skynet Today, published as a Substack newsletter and as a podcast (titled "LWiAI Podcast" in the archive). Its about page describes it as "Weekly summaries of AI news, straight to your inbox! Plus occasional articles, interviews, and more." The home page says it offers 'weekly text and audio summaries' with industry commentary. The about page says it is run by Andrey Kurenkov, who founded Skynet Today.

What an episode looks like

Each podcast episode is a numbered news round-up whose title lists the main stories. Recent examples: #257 "GPT 6 Astra, AI Extinction, Security Incidents" (24 September 2026) and #255 "Gemini 3.7, Jalapeño, Qwen 3.8, Drones" (31 August 2026). Stories span new model releases, open-weight models, security incidents, AI safety and policy. The archive also carries the written newsletter, for example #344 on 17 September 2026.

Cadence and back catalogue

The feed shows episodes on 11 August, 31 August, 8 September and 24 September 2026, so the gaps between them have ranged from about one to three weeks rather than a strict weekly beat. The archive and feed dates differ by a few days for some episodes (for example #253 is 3 August in the archive and 29 July in the feed). The iTunes lookup showed 296 tracks on 30 September 2026; that is a track count, not the episode numbering (#257). The newsletter is more regular: the archive shows issues on 25 August, 7 September and 17 September.

Who it suits

Listeners and readers who want a broad sweep of the week's AI news in one sitting rather than a single deep dive. Podcast episodes typically run 75-120 minutes, according to the feed.
