IWF: more AI-generated child abuse images assessed in first half of 2026 than in all of 2025

The UK-based Internet Watch Foundation says it assessed 6,310 AI-generated images meeting the legal definition of child sexual abuse material between January and June 2026. That is 40% more than the 4,512 recorded across 2025. The charity says 190 images showed children under two, and it is urging EU policymakers to pass a Child Sexual Abuse Regulation so platforms can detect new AI-generated material.
