  1. Cybersecurity

OpenAI lines up GPT-6 Cyber, its fourth security model this year

OpenAI is preparing to preview GPT-6 Cyber, possibly as soon as DevDay on 29 September, along with a new product that helps customers deploy it in a more secure, automated way. A small group in its invite-only Daybreak Red programme already has alpha access. That's four cyber-focused models since April, which tells you where OpenAI thinks the money is. It lands only weeks after Sam Altman backed calls to slow AI development down, and the two messages are hard to square.

UK angle: Expect a hard sell to UK security teams. Find out what the model sees of your estate before anyone signs.

  2. EU & global regulation

Google, OpenAI and Anthropic plan self-regulatory body to set frontier AI standards

The three dominant frontier AI labs are working to establish the Standards Authority for Frontier AI (SAFA), a self-regulatory body modelled on financial regulators such as FINRA, first reported by The Information. SAFA would set pre-deployment testing and auditing standards for frontier models, define incident-reporting requirements, and qualify independent AI auditors. Launch is targeted for end of 2026 or early 2027, with former White House AI adviser Sriram Krishnan among those approached to lead the organisation.

UK angle: Google DeepMind is headquartered in London; SAFA's auditing and incident-reporting standards will directly shape how UK developers and enterprises engage with frontier AI products.
